Hi,

I live in Californian and planning to take Mechanical PE in mechanical systems and materials. I was wondering if I can use my stamp for other disciplines (HVAC or Thermal). For example if I want to get a job in the city of Los Angeles or water and power, would that PE be useful?

Thanks

Fred

It doesn't matter which exam you take. The stamp will be mechanical. You probably shouldn't stamp material you are not experienced with. E.g. Stamping HVAC drawings if you are clueless about HVAC design.

HVAC and Thermal aren't "other disciplines", they are areas of emphasis within Mechanical Engineering.  They may be out of your area of expertise, and you should not be stamping drawings in those areas if you are unfamiliar with hows/whats/and whys.  A well rounded mechanical engineer would be, however.  Myself, I would never stamp HVAC until I got some practical experience with it.  Sure, I can do HVAC calcs, but I don't equate that knowledge to practical experience.

I have a similar question, would that same PE license be able to stamp formwork drawings? Granted that the PE has formwork experience.
