I hope that somebody will provide me HCM reference #, table #, or anything that I can look up.

Here is a problem for the following:

On a city street, determine the peak hourly traffic volume, the peak hour factor, and how many lanes should the street have.

I solved the first two problems.

  • Peak hourly traffic volume: 890 vehicles
  • Peak hour factor: 0.86

My question: if I know the daily volume which is 8900 vehciles daily, how can I deteremin the number of lanes?

The answer is 2 lane roadway.

Peak Capacity/ (base capacity*PHF) should give you the number of lanes.
