Hi All,

Are these 2 books lot different? Which one do you recommend between the two? I am trying to find out if I need both these books or just one would be sufficient with my preparation for the PE power exam and to also use as a reference during the exam.

Any thoughts/comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much!

Sorry forgot to the put the book names

elements of power system analysis by stevenson vs power system analysis by stevesnon and grainger

I believe the Stevenson/Grainger book is just an update of the other. I actually have the older one and used it more as moral support more than an actual reference. IMHO, those books are better suited for getting into the theory and not so good for presenting actual problems. The Wildi book is better at providing practical explanations and references like Complex Imaginary, Spinup and the NCEES sample exam are better at providing sample problems. Now if you do want to use the Stevenson/Grainger book I'd strongly recommend trying to find a free download of the solutions manual. A few of the early problems at the ends of certain chapters could be helpful. Concentrate on problems comparable to the ones in the references I listed earlier. Those are designed to be worked in 6 minutes or less

I used the Stevenson/Grainger book, Power System Analysis AND the Wildi book. The two books complement each other. Don't study from these books, but use the books as references when you are working problems from other sources. It is also a good idea to tab the book for common lookups (i.e. delta/wye connection transforms) Then on exam day you will know which book to reach for on a particular question, even if the question is different than one you specifically studied.
