Just wondering who else is studying for the October Exam, and if anyone signed up for School of PE? I just registered, but I'm still waiting to get approved from Pennsylvania...

How did it go Janizzle? I was going to sit in October for Maryland but life gototoo hectic. I'm looking at the school of pe course as well. Leaning towards the recorded seminars. What are your thoughts on the course?

I'm sure you're happy you can breath now lol

I thought the School of PE was great. They give you tons of practice problems and most of the lecturers are really good. I'm very happy that my life is going back to normal, but I still don't know for sure what the outcome will be! I took the class live on weeknights Monday through Thursday and that worked really well for me.

Thank you so much for responding. I decided to enroll for the live weeknight class as well. I was hesitant to wait only a month out for the live course but I'll be using the NC State DVDs first anyway along with the EVRM and other resources. I'm hoping by the time I take the class it will be a refresher with additional problem solving.

Good luck on the results! Enjoy the holidays as best as possible!

No problem Blue 8! YES, I used the NC State videos as well, they have a lot of notes that helped as a refresher in the early months, but I will say that since your'e using both resources you will have a TON of information. I mostly relied on the School of PE notes and found them most helpful for the exam....best wishes!

OK Janizzle congratulations!!! A girl is over here shaking in her boots about April 27, 2015! You have to pass on your wisdom in the post. Trust me, people aren't posting but they are looking at you PEs for insight lol

Hi Blue, I just found that I passed! I will be adding my post to the big advice thread in the next couple of days! I hate that it's so dead over here, but you can still search and find so much great advice here.

Good luck to you on the exam! It's such a nerve wracking experience but don't worry, you've got PLENTY of time...as long as you put in the work and do as many problems as possible, you should be able to handle what they throw at you!

Congratulations Janizzle!

Yeah, there's not much conversation happening in here lately, but as you say, everyone has left their advice so it's still a valuable resource. I am sure future test takers would benefit from your advice, as well.

Thanks Dleg! Your advice including many others were key to me passing. I definitely will be sharing....still in a bit of shock that it's all over!

I hope future test takers continue to post questions. I try to pop in and check at least once a week.

^Thanks CU07, it really helps to have recent PEs stick around to answer questions. The exam has faded into my distant memory now, although I still keep my notebooks around that have all my practice problems solutions, which has helped me answer a few questions in here.

I passed in April 2012. I can't believe it's been 2.5 years already! One of my college friends took the same exam as me and we completely overanalyzed it afterwards, so I remember it fairly well considering it was a while ago.

Janizzle - I should have said congrats. :D And Blue 8, definitely ask questions!

Hi all,

I found the forum advice helpful when studying for the April 2010 enviro exam (Passed!), and hopefully can give back a bit in advising future takers, particularily in getting an idea on pulling together reference materials. For what’s its worth, here is a list of the main reference materials that I used for prepping and during the enviro exam:

  • Lindeberg Environmental Engineering Reference Manual
  • Wastewater Engineering, Metcalf and Eddy
  • Hazardous Waste Management, LaGrega and others
  • Air Pollution Control: A Design Approach, Cooper and Alley
  • Practical Design Calculations for Groundwater and Soil Remediation, Kuo
Admittedly, having a of a chemistry background helped (just passed the Chem E test this October), but I found I didn't really need more than the references above (and yes, I brouhgt way more reference materials than the ones listed above!). Good luck to all future test takers!

Thanks for posting your advice, joeenv! Please feel free to copy & paste into another post in the pinned advice thread at the top of the forum, so that it doesn't fade away.

Although I took the exam in 2006, I just finished a masters degree in Env. Eng., and I agree that a solid chemistry background would help immensely. I honestly don't know, now, how I passed the exam before. I took two Env. Eng. chemistry classes (one organic, one inorganic) and found them to be extremely helpful in understanding and expanding a lot of what I do on the job. In retrospect, I can easily see how helpful that would be on the exam.

Great advice. Thank you! I have a Chem E background so my hope is that it will take me far for this exam. I'll be purchasing my books this weekend.
