Product Safety Engineering - Safety Case Architecture

BAE Systems are looking to recruit a Product Safety Engineer - Safety Case Architecture, to be based at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

You will be producing an element of the Safety Case documentation suite for the Whole Boat Safety Case within the Vanguard replacement submarine project.

As a Product Safety Engineer - Safety Case Architecture, your main responsibilities will involve:
To be responsible for the production of a set of Successor Safety Case documents, including Safety Management and Justification Plans, in line with developing project needs, project milestones and SMS/QMS document control procedures.

To develop a coherent narrative providing an effective summary of the Safety Case argument and evidence, communicated via a set of clear and concise status documents at key stages of the project.

To ensure the size and complexity of Safety Case documentation is appropriate to complexity, uncertainty and safety risk.

To collate, consolidate and integrate safety evidence and inputs from all stakeholders, including but not limited to; Key Safety Functional (KSF) groups, Assistant Chief Engineers (ACEs), Engineering Design Managers and pertinent Industry Partners (IPs)

To ensure that Safety Case documentation recieves an appropriate level of review and are subject to configuration control within the Project Document repository (Teamcenter) and are made available to authorised individuals/organisations where necessary.

To support and attend client/Industry Partner Interface meetings.

As a Product Safety Engineer - Safety Case Architecture your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

Have a good knowledge and awareness of product safety cases.

Have experience of technical authorship within a concurrent engineering system or engineering environment.

Have excellent technical writing, oral and general communication skills, including formal presentation skills.

Have an understanding of safety principles and design philosophies.

Be familiar with Safety and Quality Management Systems (internal audit qualification would be an advantage).

Ideally have an understanding of a Modern Standards safety case.

Be familiar with defence standards DefStan 00-56, JSP430, JSP375 POSMS.

Ideally you will degree qualified (or equivalent) within an Engineering Discipline.

Have good oral and written communication skills, including formal presentation skills, with the determination to seek continuous personal development in the Product Safety environment. A driven individual with a desire to produce high quality outputs delivered on time in line with project requirements.
