I just received the book yesterday. Figured it couldnt hurt. Does anybody else have it or something similar. Is it a good representation of the exam?
I started working the problems this weekend after working all of the 6 minute solutions problems. Having not taken the test before I can not answer your question but the problems do take some thought. Some are real easy and some are kind of tricky but still not too hard. I am only on problem number 125.

I just received the new NCEES Mechanical book too, and the problems seem to be similar to the old book. In my opinion, they seem to be much easier than what I have seen on the exam (twice). I think the Lindeburg problems are more representative of the exam...they may be a little harder than exam questions but thats what you want, right?

Hello Folks,

Any new thoughts on the new ncees book compared to the exam or lindeberg sample exam.

I was fortunate to get my hands on sample exam from Kaplan any thoughts on their exam as well.

When I took the exam in April 06 (didn't pass), I remember walking out and thinking the NCEES sample exam was not even close to the real thing. It's waaaay easier! I was pretty disappointed because I was told they are about the same level of difficulty. :(

I found the NCEES Sample Exam Questions to be at about the same level of difficulty as the actual exam. Now I only worked the Morning Session as well as the T & F afternoon so I cannot comment on the other sections. Now the questions were not the same mind you but the difficulty and length was similar.

Now the Lindeburg sample exam was WAY HARDER than the real thing. Especially the morning portion. I felt the afternoon T & F section was closer to the actual test, but the actual test had generally shorter questions and more quick questions than Lindeburg did. But if you can do the tricker stuff in the Lindeburg test you would be fine, but don't freak out if the test kicks your butt.

As for the makeup of the exam I felt neither sample test had the percentages of each topic correct, but I wouldn't expect them to.

If I had to buy just one it would be the NCEES.

Of course I should preface my post that I took the test on April 24 2009 and don't know if I passed.

I think taking the NCEES sample exam under timed conditions is really important for prep. I felt that the sample exam was easier then the actual Oct 2009 ME exam. However, it is the best way to get a feel for what it is really like. I also took the Lindeburg exam untimed. The problems were more involved. Work as many problems as you can to get speed and accuracy. You will also pick up on common mistakes and avoid them on the exam. (i.e. PSIG vs PSIA on the steam tables, unit conversions, etc.). I bought the Kaplan exam, but ran out of time before I could finish it.

Consider working the 6 min solution problems from Lindeburg. In general, they were good practice.
