I had a very enjoyable July 4th. It was spent with family and friends. I thought a lot about how fortunate I am to live in the USA . I just don't think I could make it anywhere else. Sure, I could be alive, but I couldn't be ME! This country allows me opportunity that I would have nowhere else. This country allows me freedom that I would not have in other places.

I know America is not perfect, but sometimes imperfect is as good or better than perfect.

I love my country. God bless America.

I love it when one of your offspring "gets it"! We were celebrating the fourth and watching fireworks and my college-aged daughter turned and looked at me and said, "You know, we're extremely lucky to live in this country. As much as people complain all the time, this is a great place to live and I wouldn't trade it for anything!" And then she also asked if we could say a little prayer that her high school friend currently stationed in Iraq makes it home ok.........

I agree, Mary, which is why I got so upset last year around election time with all the folks accusing each other of being anti-American, socialist, fascist, what have you, and threatening to move away if so and so won. I've been away from the mainstream US for so long, and have seen so many fucked up things and God-awful corruption, that it always bothers me when people "back there" in the USA seem to forget just how good their way of life and form of government really is.
