When I called down to the board yesterday they said it would probably be in the next 4 weeks.
that sucks...i dont see any reason why it would take so long. get the scores, input them into the system, and generate a license number. i would think that if we can design and construct a bridge in less than two weeks, the board would be able to handle creating license numbers in less than 6-8 weeks.

btw, the bridge example was down in bradenton earlier last year when a tanker truck burned the existing bridge on I-75 and new one was put up in less than 2 weeks.

I agree that it seems to take a long time but they have to justify the high application fee somehow. Make us feel like we are getting our moneys worth out of the time we wait.

Did you guys realize that in Florida we need to take the "Building Code Core Course" before we could sign plans for permitting even after we get the PE license?

I was trying to get information about where to take this class online. Does anybody have idea about it?

I was also told that it would take 6-8 weeks for them to issue the PE license when I had called the FBPE a couple of weeks back.

Yes, I was aware of that. It comes on the form from Florida when you pass the exam. I googled the course and the first thing that came back was this...

Department Website:

http://www.floridabuilding.org/c/default.aspx

Training Website:

http://www.dca.state.fl.us/fbc/training/1_training.htm

Is this what you were looking for?

Thank you MonteBiker and jroyce,

So the 'Administrative Core Course' is what we need to take, right? But we will not be able to take test before we get our license.

That would be how I read it. I have not tried to sign up but I would imagine that they ask for PE# when you sign up so that they can report it back or so. I called over to the board the other day and they were hoping to have the numbers out within the next 4 weeks as mentioned above. I understand being frustrated with the waiting for the number. I am trying to get my NCEES registration put together and the system will not let you print out the forms to send to references until that number is input.

That is correct. Once you have your PE number then you can sign up for the course and take it right then. You will get your certificate once you complete the course and thne you forward the certificate to the engineering board so that it can be added to your record.

also, read the state statutes on this...you do not have to take the course right away. from recollection, it said you must demonstarte you have taken the course within 2 years of licensure. so you have plenty of time to get er done.

So we are waiting 4 more weeks... I am expecting a pay raise, so this is costing me! Once we get a number, does anyone know the next step? Are we then allowed to use P.E. after our name, or do we have to jump thru any more hoops? :doganim:

Do they send us a wall certificate automatically? When do we get this? How do we get a stamp?

Have you talked with the folks at the Board lately? I am guessing that we will have our PE numbers within the next week or so. They will automatically send you your certificates. They will make the certificates shortly after getting the numbers generated and I would imagine that they will have those out in the next month or so. But you are officially a PE when they assign you your number. You can always check your status online. I had called the board a week or so back. Anyone else want to give it a try and let us know what happens... I don't want to bother them a bunch of times for fear that they will move me back to the end of the list. :)

asked the FBPE about an ETA on when we (FL) would get license numbers.

got this back today...

"We do not have the grades in the system yet. It may be another 2 to 3 weeks or so depending on when the Department of Business and Professional Regulation enters them. From then it would be about 10 days or so."

so, out of boredom, i sent an email to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation asking essentially when they would "get their grades in the system". haven't gotten a response yet... i'll post here when i do...

Forgot to mention about the stamp. Once you have your number and all, you can go and order one (that is not provided by the state).

Thanks for checking into that! Look forward to hearing what else you find out.

That means they were right about 8 weeks timeline. I had thought they would provide the number within 4 weeks or so. It's surprising that NCEES takes 8 weeks to check all the answer sheet and provide result for all states and our own State takes similar time to just collect the result and distribute the number.

Anyways, thanks aphex for that info.

lol. so, as a continuation of my experience, here is what the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation had to say...

My question... "I was wondering if there was a time frame prediction for when the grades will be entered into the system for those who passed the '08 October Professional Engineering exam. I received a passing notice from ELSES on December 16th, 2008, and the Florida Board of Professional Engineers has told me that they cannot issue license numbers since your department had not yet entered the grades in the system."

Their response..."Thank you for contacting the Department of Business and Professional Regulation regarding an engineering license. Unfortunately, the information you requested is not available through this department; this department no longer issues the engineering licenses. Please contact Florida Engineers Management Corporation or the Florida Board of Professional Engineers at (850) 521-0500 or www.fbpe.org or [email protected] The address is 2507 Callaway Road Suite 200, Tallahassee, FL 32301."

that's what we call a dead end. my guess is we will see license numbers in about two weeks, followed by certificates a week or two after that.

I guess that I had forgotten to post that I called over to FDBPR on Friday and spent a bit of time on hold trying to get through a set of menus driven by pushing buttons, most of which do not connect to real people. When I finally got to talk with someone, they mentioned that they are only able to reset pin numbers and that all other info is done by the FBPE. Glad to see that they are at least giving consistent statements. I am still hoping that we hear about numbers more quickly than that.

I also forgot to mention that they still requested my name and phone number so that they could log the call (even though they did not do anything). It is amazing that some states are already receiving wallet cards and others cannot even agree as to who is supposed to enter the information. I can picture them all sitting around a table calling out "1,2,3... Not It!"
