FHWA MUTCD vs CA MUTCD

The exam is a national exam so they will be testing you on content from the FHWA MUTCD and not necessarily the CA MUTCD.  Since both are free (in pdf format), my vote would be to use the national MUTCD for the exam (studying and exam day).  With that said, if printing/paper/ink costs are prohibitive to you, you could get away with using the CA MUTCD.  The CA MUTCD is essentially the FHWA MUTCD with strike-outs and additions.  So, if you are studying/testing from the CA-MUTCD, you'll need to be able to ignore the "CA stuff" - you'll need to read all the strike-outs and ignore all the additions (additions in blue).  But again, my advice would be to make it simpler on yourself and use the FHWA MUTCD.  Good luck.  Let us know what you decide and how it goes.

Thank you! This helps. My office will have up to 3 people taking it in Spring 2017 so resources will be spread thin but I definitely can manage the printing/binding cost. The pro with using the CA MUTCD is that I am more familiar with it. I will weigh my pros and cons and keep the community posted on which I decide.
