Hi all,

How is it going?

I just start to prepare PE exam in structure. I plan to take it after one year from now but before 2 years from now. I have no idea how to start the review. I just purchased the CERM 14th. I do not know what else I would better prepare besides this only one book? I saw a package of structure books and morning breadth package selling in ppi2pass, they are very very expansive... are they worth it? If you passed the PE exam recently, could you please give some suggestions? Thank you a million

You are also going to need lots of practice problems. I bought a "package" deal of books from PPI and think some of the material is useless.

Taking a class might you get organized and focus your studies.

These two groups have a good reputation here:

http://www.eet-california.com/ (I'm currently enrolled in EET's live webinar. I've happy so far.)

Review classes are expensive, but think of it as an investment!

Also, take a look at NCEES's exam specs and design standards: https://cdn.ncees.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Civ-Str-April-2015_Combined2.pdf

Good luck.

Thank you for your suggestion! I think to get an online class is a really good idea. I will take that after I saved enough money... haha

I'm taking the exam this fall and by far the most expensive part so far has been collecting the recommended standards. My company handles infrastructure so the only manuals we had on hand were the AASHTO LRFD manual and ACI 318. I have had to get the rest myself. The exam fees (in MD) were very small in comparison and my company considers the prep class fees as eligible for tuition reimbursement. But starting early on collecting the reference materials would let you buy stuff at the best price. NCEES just updated the editions of the references they use on the structural exam so you've got at least a couple of years before they update it again.
