Wkipedia and other sites shut down for the day

Wikipedia even offed a link so that you can contact your house and senate representatives (my representative was wrong--bravo wikipedia!), but the thought occurred to me:

Who are the legislators more likely to listen to:

a) Millions of e-mails from irate constituents?

B) Print, TV, and film media companies that donate millions?

Neither. They'll listen to whomever has the lobbyists who buys each of them the most toys.

The local media is reporting that the CO representatives have already started publicly distancing themselves from it.

I know they'll listen to the public when it's an election year...

Must be a lot of folks contacting their legislators. The sites for all three of mine are down.

Pretty much the entire tech industry is against this bill; Facebook, Google, AOL, Ebay, Twitter...

The only exception that I know of is the people that run Fark.com (news aggregation, not porn); they've indicated that they are for it - they figure it's the only way they can take some time off.

Senator Wyden - my senator - is one of the people leading the charge against this bill. I sent him a message of support, but since he knows what he's doing it barely seemed necessary.

My congressman is Lamar Smith...I called him last week.

You can get around this by using google's cacheing feature. Basically, type anything into google along with the word "wiki". If you hover over the wikipedia results, a double arrow shows up to the right of the search results. Click on the double arrow and a graphic shows up. At the top there is a link that says "Cached". This will give you the most recent cached web page, which is generally fairly recent.

That was the real reason we were closed in December, I was boycotting early....

Why would they legislate a series of tubes? Its not a dumptruck.
