I purchased all of these brand new for the April 2017 exam which I passed so I am ready to pass on some of the helpful material! I am hoping someone will buy all/most of these at once to help on the shipping cost since the HCM is big and a touch heavy and the others are slim to fit in, but won't turn down individual purchases. HCM2010: Bought new for $232 with shipping from TRB, like new condition, Selling for $190 shipped to US48. NCEES Practice Exam - Transportation Depth: Bought new for $52.56 with shipping from NCEES, like new condition, Selling for $36 shipped to US48. Goswami - 2 Breadth Practice Exams written in 2013 - Amazon Link: Bought new for $28.20 with tax from Amazon, like new condition, Selling for $21 shipped to US48. Goswami - Breadth + Transportation Depth Practice Exam written in 2015 - Amazon Link: Bought new for $30.57 with tax from Amazon, like new condition, Selling for $23 shipped to US48. If you buy all 4 items I will drop this from $270 total down to $250 including shipping to US48. If you are in AK/HI I will have to see what shipping is and might need you to cover a portion. I can also toss in a spiral bound copy of the CERM Table of Contents and Index if you want it (with minor highlights). Additional photos available upon request.

  2. Best Tranportation Review - 2 fails...

Are you able to tell by your practice exams or problems where you get hung up (remembering unit conversion, answering what they ask for and not what you assume, utilizing the correct formula, etc)? Were you doing practice exams in a timed environment or allowing yourself to take longer to find the answers so the actual test suffered from that? Also, in general did you change up the way you studied much from the 1st to the 2nd attempt? I personally really enjoyed the layout and way the All-In-One (AIO) book by Goswami was written; it was the source I relied on most of all. Maybe if you can redo SoPE and also have time to work through the AIO's relevent chapters it will turn out to be a good tool on the next exam. I have seen people really speak highly of EET and had I not passed the first time, I would have decided to invest in the EET program to make my second attempt be my last.
  3. Classifieds Question

@Road Guy or whomever helped, can you please still explain how/if the normal user can do the same?
  4. Classifieds Question

Well it looks like someone renewed it for me which I appreciate, but I am still not sure how to do it myself or if the way to do it is to make a thread and get a mod to do it for you? Explaining the process would be appreciated, but thanks for getting it renewed for me.
  5. Classifieds Question

After looking over the forum sections, this is the closest area I felt to fit my question, but still isn't perfect... I had an advert posted in the classifieds section that has now expired. I see that it claims there is an option to renew the advert for an additional 30 days, but I have yet to find any way to do what it claims I can do. I had checked when there was a day or so left and figured since there wasn't an option it must show up after it actually expires, but that turned out to be untrue. How the heck do you renew an advert?!? I can obviously just start fresh and retype it, but I'd rather do what the site claims I can do. Someone who has done this before please show me the page or button I am not seeing to be able to renew this advert: Thanks

  7. Professional use of HCM

@youngmotivatedengineer Thanks for the opinion, you do bring up some good points that I will consider. @ptatohed Thanks for moving it to the proper location, you basically summed up my thoughts on this and I will likely lean towards selling it to another test taker. Maybe its a selling feature that it comes from someone who already passed the PE! It may be a disservice to not pass it along to someone who also wants to see that green "PASS" on NCEES.
  8. Professional use of HCM

This was the best place I could think of for asking this question. If I overlooked another area, feel free to move this thread. I know the PE exam does, and maybe will continue for awhile, utilize the 2010 version of the HCM with it's errata/updates. In the professional world and actual design use (outside the PE exam), would the HCM 2010 still apply or would it be best/required to use the newest HCM 6th edition (2016)? I feel like a lot of studies and changes could have been made over the years and justify their need to publish a new edition, but then again sometimes people seem to just put out newer versions to generate fresh purchases. I mention all of that to basically ask the question: Now that I passed the PE, would it be smart for me to sell the HCM2010 and eventually purchase the newest version or request any employer to do so if we would need to reference it, or do many of you currently still use and think you will continue to use the 2010 version in real life design work? Since I paid out of pocket for this reference, it would be nice to recoup most of the funds and pass it along to a future test taker if I would be better off designing from the 6th edition, but if I should hang onto it for a bit, I can do that as well. My worry is if/when I eventually no longer need it for design work, the PE will also move on to the latest version and I won't have a market to sell to.
  9. Hmm I wonder how it would look if you had a wood frame and routered out a slot in the bottom of the frame to put the pencil in there and kept the certificate as the only thing behind the glass. Be unique at least....
  10. Asking for a raise after passing the PE Exam.

I wonder how it compares when you also factor in benefits. I am pretty sure I don't make all that much on base pay, but hopefully my benefits make up for it a bit in that medical/dental/vision are covered, retirement pension match of 2:1 with me paying in 7% (so 21% of my pay each year), and a few other odds and ends that are likely more similar. If someone making $10k+ more than me in a similar area has to pay out of pocket towards medical/dental/vision and doesn't get much retirement help, then it may balance out more. Otherwise I am likely just sticking around letting them pay me less than I deserve... We shall see what happens in under a year when I can actually register for my PE.
  11. Why can't we all be like Texas

The only real reason I see a benefit of knowing your score is so you can pass along to future takers any decent study habits. I was able to have my actual score fall correctly into my range of assumed scores based on my tally of questions I got 100%, 50%, or 25% correct. I did not get a score for my FE, but I still would have liked to know how I did. Maybe it's the fact that every other test we have seen a true grade or that since they are saying no you cannot have this, now we want it... Those of you that say you enjoy not being able to see your score, do you think you would actually look or be tempted to look if it was actually available?
  12. Haven't fully decided, but if I sell anything it would be: The HCM because isn't it an outdated one that the PE requires? NCEES Practice exam, but may keep it until a new one releases so I can try to get full value back. Two (2) Goswami Practice exam books. The other books I either see some value in so I will hold onto them (AIO and CERM), I borrowed it so I had to give it back, or my work paid for and it becomes part of the library (MUTCD, GreenBook, other AASHTO). I guess I've never looked on here, but can anyone post to the classifieds or are there requirements such as supporting member or amount of time on the board?
  13. Self Studiers - What Resources did you use?

Civil Transportation - In short I had every book on the recommended NCEES list plus a couple more. Goswami All-in-one - I thought it was a great layout and had decent examples and a couple practice problems to use while studying each chapter that fit the NCEES outline. This was easily my main go-to book and seemed very organized compared to the CERM. It was my only point of study the first 2 months. Without this book I don't know how well I would have done with self-study. I did buy the CERM as a backup or in-addition-to reference and used it a few times. For the CERM I had a separate printed index that was spiral bound for easy lookup in that thick thing. My work was able to purchase the AASHTO PE exam bundle that contains a bunch of the recommended books such as green book, Mutcd, HSM, etc. Some I didn't really use period, but they will stay as references in the office and are office property. I personally also bought the HCM and then borrowed the Asphalt red book, an older edition of a transportation textbook that seemed to be referenced a lot in the NCEES practice exam, and the FE handbook. Lastly I got the NCEES practice exam and with like 6 weeks to go decided to pick up 2 Goswami practice exams since I liked the way he did things in the all-in-one. One was 2 breadth exams and the other was a breadth and transpo depth. I think that was it and if you need specific titles let me know and I will grab them, but unsure if you were transportation or not.
  14. I have no knowledge of how to handle this, but figured I'd add an opinion. If someone with more weight/justification chimes in, then trust their advice more. I would say the title of PE near your name is pushing it a bit far even with a disclaimer. For sure you would want somewhere on the resume to say "Successfully passed PE exam in April 2017" and depending on your resume layout it could go in a few places. I can understand that you want this to be a good standout and set you apart from any other EIT that may apply as well and I think that is indeed a smart plan. It may also make a difference in how much experience you have since graduation. Did you take the PE right out of college to where you are still with limited to no experience, or are you in between jobs with say 3 years prior professional experience? If close to the 4 year mark, then maybe you could add in "Able to obtain license within XX months."
  15. Iowa Out!

Had to poke in here since I took my FE in Iowa. Sorry to hear the news vhab, but its still a stepping stone forward with the experience, just need to maybe consider some study changes and tackle it next time. No one else from Iowa on here to report in?
